AER CELEBRATES 20TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Brussels, March 1st, 2011

On March 2nd/3rd 2011, the organisation defending the interests of commercially funded private radios at EU level, AER, will celebrate its 20th General Assembly. Since it was founded by four national associations of private radios in 1992, AER has grown to be a Europe-wide trade-body representing the interests of over 4’500 commercially funded radio stations across the EU27 and in Switzerland. AER‘s main objective is to develop and defend the most suitable framework for private commercial radio activity.

On March 2nd, the 20th General Assembly will be followed by a social event at the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the EU. On March 3rd, a the annual AER conference will be held at the European Parliament, opened by a keynote speech by Neelie Kroes, European Commission Vice-President in charge of the Digital Agenda, and followed by two panel sessions: the first one on collective management of authors’ rights and related rights, with Cecilia Wikström MEP (ALDE, JURI) Lidia Joanna Geringer de Oedenberg MEP (S&D, JURI), Tilman Lüder (Head of the Copyright Unit within the European Commission DG Internal Market and Services) and Julia Maier-Hauff, AER Executive Committee Member. The second panel session will deal with the importance of advertising for commercial radios, with Petra Kammerevert MEP (S&D, CULT), Jean-Marie Cavada MEP (EPP, CULT), and Stefan Möller, AER Vice-President.
