The conference focused on:
Session I:
Commercial radio’s public and personal value
Commercial radio has a distinct local public value: three
commercial radio speakers will exchange with Marian Harkin MEP on why and how
commercial radio connects people, is trusted, useful and attractive!
Session II: Commercial radio and the Rights’
Management Directive
Commercial radio needs improved management of music
rights: the European Commission published a proposal for a Directive on July 11th,
2012 to improve management and transparency of entities managing rights, enable
dispute resolution mechanisms and licensing solutions for music users. Collecting
societies are key actors for the management of rights, but their transparency
and governance need to be improved, and equitable dispute-resolution mechanisms
should be set. Besides, new forms of licences for radio should be enabled in
the listeners' interest. We will discuss how to improve the European Commission
proposal for a Directive to also take into account the needs of users in
general and of a key actor for music in particular – radio, and ensure and
preserve its presence online and offline!
