| The Radio Spectrum Committee (RSC) launches a consultation on its 2007 Work Programme |

The Radio Spectrum Committee (RSC) is one of the European Commission (EC) committees and exercises its functions through advisory and regulatory procedures. The RSC has been established under the Radio Spectrum Decision 676/2002/EC as part of the EU regulatory framework for electronic communications networks and services (“Telecom package”). Its main tasks are to assist the EC in the development and adoption of technical implementing measures aimed at ensuring harmonised conditions for the availability and efficient use of radio spectrum, as well as the availability of information related to the use of radio spectrum. More detailed information regarding the activities of the Radio Spectrum Committee is available, here. The consultation On May 15th, 2007, the RSC launched a consultation on its 2007 Work Programme. The purpose of the consultation is “to increase the transparency of the work of the Radio Spectrum Committee and to seek the views of actors not involved in the Committee”. The draft programme, which is the basis for the consultation, has been adopted by the 19th RSC meeting on March 14th and 15th, 2007. The programme The work programme lists the possible activities of the Committee for the year 2007. The main issues on the agenda are: harmonisation measures under consideration; on-going or new Mandates; follow-up of existing harmonisation measures; and other issues of interest for the RSC. Each of the listed issues has been specified by concrete decisions or actions to be undertaken. The new harmonization measures for example envisage a decision on 900 and 1800 MHz bands, decision on spectrum information, decision(s) of specific UWB applications, decision on 2GHz MSS spectrum.
