AER greets new Member and agrees on new statutes MEDIA RELEASE AER GREETS NEW MEMBER AND AGREES ON NEW STATUTES At an extraordinary General Assembly held in Barcelona on November 7th, 2007, the Association of European Radios (AER) welcomed a new member: the "Syndicat Interprofessionnel des Radios et Télévisions Indépendantes" (SIRTI). The latter represents the interests of 130 radio stations, broadcasting to more than 10 million listeners in France. Furthermore, AER's General Assembly unanimously agreed on new statutes which allow new forms of membership for interested parties. "While the national associations of private radio broadcasters will remain AER's cornerstone, we can now also welcome regional associations, corporate networks, and even independent single stations from markets where no national association exists", says AER Secretary General Frederik Stucki. "The new statutes give us a future-proof framework to ensure and further develop AER's strength as the industry's common voice in Brussels, and to provide support to commercial radio in all European countries, regardless of their form of sectorial organisation". Further to a new range of membership categories for associations and companies based in one of the EU member states, AER offers associated membership with observatory status to associations and companies from outside the EU. Established in 1992, AER is a Europe-wide trade body representing the interests of over 4,500 commercially-funded radio stations across the European Union and in Switzerland. AER is an EEIG whose main objective is to develop and defend the most suitable framework for private commercial radio activity. AER constantly follows EU actions in the fields of media, telecommunications and private radio transmission, in order to contribute, to enrich and foster the radio sector.
