RADIODAYS EUROPE – the new European radio conference taking place in Copenhagen on 18th and 19th March 2010 –  has gained support from the leading radio industry organizations such as EBU, AER, egta, URTI and World DMB Forum. It will bring commercial and public service broadcasters in Europe together to learn about the latest developments in radio and to discuss the challenges and opportunities for radio.

− The goal is to make the best radio conference in Europe, with highly sought-after speakers. It will highlight the challenges and opportunities for radio today as well as the future of the radio as a medium. Radiodays Europe will be strongly rooted in the European radio industry of today, says Project Manager Anders Held.

European radio industry leaders will be in Copenhagen
The conference will be opened by Tim Davie (Director of BBC Audio & Music) and Christophe Montague (CEO of NRJ International) who will reflect on “The Future of Radio”.

There will be high-level discussion on where European radio is heading with a range of European radio industry players participating. And of course the future of digital radio will be on the agenda. Can Europe unite on how to move forward and line out a digital roadmap for radio?

Radiodays Europe is the conference for everyone who wants to learn about what´s new  in radio programming, audience research and radio across all platforms, as well as new business models for radio.

Radio in mobile phones and “on the road”
The trend researcher Sven Tollmien, Head of Digital Trend Unit, TrendONE, Hamburg, will give a visionary perspective on the prospects of in-car-entertainment.  BMW’s manager for personal Entertainment, Dr.Ing Michael Weber, will give the car manufacturer’s perspective and Dr. Marcus Heitmann from Deutsche Telekom will speak about in-car-services from the viewpoint of the telecom industry. Rainer Biehn from Bayerische Medien Technik will look at how different technologies can be combined to produce remarkable results for radio as well as media users.

Mobile phones are perhaps the most important gadgets in people’s lives and they are getting increasingly advanced. Mark Jefford-Baker, Business Development Manager at Ericsson Multimedia, will talk about new technological developments as well as what consumer behavior can be expected. It will be followed by a discussion with telecom operators, broadcasters and mobile service developers.

Creativity and content on the agenda
Great ideas and good stories − that is what radio is made of, whatever technology or media platform it is based upon. Our heads are filled with them.  The challenge is to get them out.  Luckily there are effective methods to be used in order to find ideas, develop creativity, create great team spirit and get the best out of everyone within a radio organization.  Jan-Uwe Meyer, a leading German expert, will lead us through the process.

Rachel Mallender, producer of The Chris Moyles Show (BBC Radio 1, UK) and Marc Haberland, producer of Arno & die Morgencrew (RTL Berlin, Germany) will go “behind the shows” and say “Goodmorning Europe!” in a session focusing on morning shows.

Another session focus on how to “catch the ears” of the young audience. “Switch”, a BBC project for a young audience will be presented as by Geoffrey Goodwin as well as other cases from European radio.

The future – right behind the corner
RADIODAYS EUROPE will also present a wide range of sessions looking at the latest developments in radio on the Internet, interactivity and social media:

What new features do listeners want from radio? And what works? A recent study on what people expect from radio on new platforms will be presented as well as the latest developments in radio DNS and whether it might serve as the missing link between broadcasting and interactivity. There will also be examples of new cross platform experiences and interactive radio solutions from Norway and Switzerland.

New solutions for radio on the web in Sweden and in Spain put radio in the centre of their listeners’ web experience.  A UK broadcaster wil present creative new interactive and visual features and talk about how it will position itself on the joint radio player with the BBC.

Commercial radio needs a boost
Commercial radio is suffering of a lack of advertising sales in most of Europe. What can the industry itself do to raise the quality of adverts and sales?

Industry veteran Tony Hertz will deliver an eye-opener for producers, production companies and advertising agencies on how to write and produce more and better radio ads. Tony Hertz has more than 30 years experience in radio advertising and he has won several awards all over the world. He is considered one of the most trusted experts in the field and his workshops are always full.

Bart van Gogh, Netherlands, will show how producers from different radio stations throughout Europe operate in various ways.  During this session participants will hear and see a variety of production methods, recorded in the studio facilities of European radio imaging designers, from top rated stations of the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Hungary and others.

Sessions on future audience research and PPM (electronic measurement) have also been confirmed as well as a session on audience research entitled “Where is radio in the lives of the Ipod generation” with the Swedish anthropologist Katarina Graffman.
