In order to better serve its members' interests, AER has decided to relaunch its website.
It was decided that the previous website, in which updates and editing could only be performed by a dedicated webmaster, had outgrown its usefulness. The new and improved aereurope.org will now use a content management system, which allows online content to be quickly and easily updated by staff in the Brussels office. It is hoped that, as the site progresses, it will develop into an invaluable tool for members, facilitating communication and permitting them to take a more hands-on approach, for example by directly contributing to and editing online content. The launch of the new website comes as part of a wider rethink of our organisation's communication strategy, the object of which is to provide members with quicker and easier means of accessing information on relevant EU policy and events. Our new website will serve as the main first point of contact between our organisation and the general public, but will also provide significant added-value, in the form of "members-only" content. This content, which is likely to include the results of our latest radio data survey, as well as downloads of conference documentation, will be only be accessible via password, which will be provided to all members in due course. While aereurope.org may have been entirely redesigned, members will still be able to access AER position papers and press releases, the vast majority of which have been transferred from the old site. Very much linked to the concept of improving member communication and providing added value is the AER newsletter. Set to be called AER EBulletin, the newsletter will contain summaries from the news section of the new website, as well as details of upcoming events. As the EBulletin is designed with our members needs in mind, it will contain only brief article stubs and essential event listings and is designed to be quickly scanned for relevant information. We are very conscious of the overloaded inboxes of our members and want, therefore to keep any spam factor to a minimum. Members can expect to receive the first edition of the AER EBulletin in the first week in February, with the website going online at the same time. As AER wishes to tailor our communications strategy to our members' needs, we welcome any comments or suggestions you may have.
