Apple and Major record companies’ territorial restrictions on online music sales under threat Print E-mail
The European Commission (EC) accuses major record companies and Apple of infringing Article 81 of the EC Treaty.

The EC confirmed today, April 3rd, 2007, that it had already sent a statement of objection to the mentioned companies and Apple against agreed territorial sales restrictions. The alleged territorial restrictions derive from the fact that, for example, if the consumers want to “buy a music download from the iTunes’ Belgian on-line store”, they “must use a credit card issued by a bank with an address in Belgium”. The consequence of these territorial restrictions is different prices and different artists available in the different EU Member States.
