SRN's main objective is to defend its members' freedom of speech and freedom of enterprise as well as the protection of their cultural and economic interests before both public institutions and any other body linked to the sector.
SRN is an association formed by professional radio networks. Its active members are all private companies and must comply with the following conditions:
- They must broadcast in at least 15 French administrative regions
- They must be able to be received by at least 20 million listeners throughout France

The SRN's President, Secretary General and Treasurer are appointed for terms of one year and are elected by the members.
SRN is a founding member of the Association of European Radios (AER).
